Why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is on the rise?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is so much more than just a sport – it is a lifestyle and will transform your life for the better. While Brazilian Jiu Jitsu may have entered the public eye due to the incredible success of Renzo Gracie in the early days of UFC – where he was able to consistently submit larger and stronger opponents – Jiu Jitsu has grown into more than just a sport or a martial art, it is a way of life for many people because of the incredible benefits that come along with training in “the gentle art.”
Jiu Jitsu training is more rigorous than many other martial arts, owing to the intensely physical nature of grappling. A typical session includes cardiovascular training, stretching, breathing work and a resistance workout; the latter is derived from working with a resisting opponent approximately your size. These sessions build your strength and endurance, and increase flexibility.
A typical Jiu Jitsu session includes exercising to near exhaustion, becoming frustrated with complex techniques and accumulating a moderate collection of dings and bruises. Despite this -- or perhaps because of it -- Jiu Jitsu is fun. "Doing things you enjoy can extend your lifespan, and make your life more worth living," says Dr. Mehmet Oz in his book, "You: The Owner's Manual."
Jiu-Jitsu is good for your mind in many, many ways. The first of which is that it helps lower our stress levels. Exercise in general has been proven to release the hormones that help reduce stress level and Jiu-Jitsu is no exception. However Jiu-Jitsu takes this a step further. Because Jiu-Jitsu is our passion we are able to reduce our stress levels while doing something that truly makes us happy.
Jiu-Jitsu is good for both the body and the mind. It can help manage our stress levels and increase our brain productivity and problem solving skills. It helps us manage our own self-image, teaches us respect and gives us a discipline that cannot be leaned any other way. No matter how you slice it, Jiu-Jitsu is good for the mind.
Now go step on the mats and make yourself the person you want to be!
